The office of the Vital Records issuese certified copies of Birth and Death certificates and also corrects and ammends these records.
Registration of Vital events keeps a continuous track of demograpic changes in any City. India has a long tradition of verification of births and deaths. In 1873, the Government of India promulgated an Act which provided for only voluntary registration of births and deaths. Later, in an effort to improve the civil registration system the Government of India promulgated the Births and Death Registration Act, 1969 which provides for compulsory registration of births and deaths through out the country.
The information relating to all births and deaths since 1980 is available at any e-seva centre in the City or the City Civic Centre located at GVMC office. There have been 3.4 lakh births and 1.16 deaths registered since 1980. For information relating to births and deaths from 1887 to 1979 the Vital Records Office at GVMC Office may be contacted.
The citizen’s charter stipulates 5 days for issue of any birth and death certificate. Whereas any certificate for an event which occurred after 1980 can be obtained across the counter in any e-seva / City Civic Centre on payment of the prescribed fee.
Birth certificates for newly born babies are mailed within one month. This also depends on the proper mailing address given by the parents at the maternity hospital.

You must provide the details of the event, mailing address, relation-ship with the person whose certificate is sought, and demand draft in favour of Registrar, Birth and Death, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation for rupees Twenty Five.
